Step by step

Instructions

  1. Adjust the seat so you can use a safe, comfortable range of motion while keeping your back and hips against the pad.
  2. Place both feet on the platform approximately shoulder-width apart with your knees aligned over your toes.
  3. Brace your core, keep your full feet in contact with the platform, and release the machine safety mechanism if required.
  4. Press through your feet to extend your legs without aggressively locking your knees.
  5. Pause briefly, then bend your knees and return the platform slowly under control.
  6. Descend only as far as you can keep your lower back and hips against the pad, then repeat.

Coaching

Tips

  • Keep your knees tracking in the same direction as your toes throughout the repetition.
  • Maintain stable contact through your heels, the bases of your big toes, and the bases of your little toes.
  • Use a load that allows you to control both the press and the return.
  • Choose a depth that preserves a neutral pelvis and full back-pad contact.

Technique check

Common mistakes

  • Allowing the knees to collapse inward.
  • Locking the knees aggressively at the top.
  • Using too much weight to maintain controlled technique.
  • Allowing the lower back or hips to lift away from the pad.
  • Descending beyond a controllable range of motion.
  • Using unnecessarily short partial repetitions.
  • Pushing only through the toes instead of maintaining stable full-foot contact.
  • Releasing the weight too quickly or allowing the stack to slam.
