Step by step

Instructions

  1. Adjust the seat so the handles are approximately aligned with the middle of your chest.
  2. Sit with your back firmly against the pad and place both feet securely on the floor.
  3. Grip the handles with neutral, stable wrists and keep your shoulders controlled without shrugging.
  4. Brace your core and press the handles forward until your arms are extended without aggressively locking your elbows.
  5. Pause briefly under control, then slowly return the handles toward your chest while maintaining tension.
  6. Repeat for the prescribed repetitions without allowing the weight stack to slam.

Coaching

Tips

  • Choose a seat height that keeps the handles near mid-chest and your elbows at a comfortable angle.
  • Keep your back against the pad, feet planted, and wrists stacked throughout each repetition.
  • Use a load that lets you control both the press and the return.

Technique check

Common mistakes

  • Using an incorrect seat height that places the handles too high or too low.
  • Shrugging the shoulders excessively or positioning the elbows too high or too low.
  • Bending the wrists excessively or lifting the back away from the pad.
  • Using too much weight or slamming the machine weight stack.
  • Locking the elbows aggressively or returning the handles too quickly.
